I would purchase this item again, if I needed to. Even when the weather is between 10-20 degrees F, there is no ice in the birdbath at all. The warranty is 3 years, which is unheard of in our day. I have not used it in temperatures below 10 degrees F, so I cannot comment on performance in those temperatures. It does get algae on it along with the birdbath, but it is easy to clean with a scrubber. I haven't noticed any change in my electric bill. I haven't found any dead birds around the birdbath, so no one is getting electrocuted.that's always a plus.Judgment Day is coming soon. Product was shipped quickly and the item was exactly as described. The only problem I've found is that it only thaws a small area of my birdbath. However, I guess that's all the birds need at this time.
I received a new one a week later on a Saturday via FedEx. I had this heater for one year and then it quit working which made for some upset birds. I called their customer service department and they instructed me to send it back to them in Colorado. It was well worth the $4.50 to send it back. This one works great and my birds are smiling again.
All I have to do is keep the birdbath full of water. This 50-watt birdbath de-icer is a great product. I love it. Just plug it in and let it do its job. There is a thermostat built in so when the temperature gets above freezing it turns off. Bruce, St. Louis, Mo.
I purchased one of these products 2 years ago. The second one did not work at all when we put it out this winter. It worked fine the first year although it was a pretty mild winter. The second year it quit working early in the season and I bought another one just like it as it was the only thing locally I could find and I hated to see the birds go without water. I thought the first one was just a fluke, but obviously I was wrong. Our experience has been that this is a disposable product.
